Fix Dessert Chocolatier Review: Is It Worth the Hype?

Fix Dessert Chocolatier is the brand that started the entire Dubai chocolate phenomenon. Founded by Sarah Hamouda in Dubai, Fix Dessert's "Can't Get Knafeh" bar became one of the most viral food products in internet history, generating billions of views across TikTok and Instagram.

But viral fame and actual quality aren't always the same thing. With prices starting at $22 per bar, international shipping costs, and waitlists that can stretch for weeks, is Fix Dessert Chocolatier actually worth it?

We ordered five bars from Fix Dessert's lineup to find out.

The Brand Story

Sarah Hamouda launched Fix Dessert Chocolatier in 2021 from a small kitchen in Dubai. Her concept was simple but revolutionary: combine traditional Middle Eastern dessert elements — kunafa, pistachio cream, tahini, rose water — with artisan chocolate-making techniques.

The breakthrough came with the "Can't Get Knafeh" bar, which featured a layer of butter-toasted kataifi pastry and thick pistachio cream encased in tempered chocolate. When food bloggers started reviewing it on TikTok in late 2023, the brand exploded.

For the full history, see our dedicated article.

Review: Can't Get Knafeh (Original) — 9.2/10

This is the bar that started it all, and we understand why.

First impression: The bar is noticeably heavier than a standard chocolate bar. The packaging is elegant — matte black with gold lettering.

The break: Breaking it in half reveals the now-iconic cross-section: a thick layer of bright green pistachio cream sandwiched with golden kunafa threads. It's genuinely beautiful.

Taste: The first bite is an experience. You get the chocolate snap, immediately followed by the crunch of butter-toasted kunafa, then the rich, smooth pistachio cream floods in. The pistachio cream is intensely nutty — clearly made from real, high-quality pistachios. The kunafa is perfectly toasted, with a butterscotch-like sweetness.

Verdict: Lives up to the hype. The layered texture is unlike anything else on the market. The quality of ingredients is evident in every bite.

Review: Fix On Lotus — 8.5/10

The Biscoff variation swaps pistachio cream for Lotus cookie butter.

Taste: Sweet, caramelized cookie flavor pairs surprisingly well with the kunafa crunch. Less complex than the original but extremely addictive. The speculoos and kunafa textures play off each other nicely.

Critique: The sweetness can be overwhelming. If you have a sweet tooth, this is paradise. If you prefer balanced flavors, the original is better.

Review: Can't Get Knafeh Dark — 9.0/10

The 70% dark chocolate version of the original.

Taste: The bitterness of the dark chocolate creates a more sophisticated flavor profile. The pistachio cream and kunafa are identical to the original, but the dark chocolate frames them differently — the pistachio flavor actually comes through more clearly when not competing with sweet milk chocolate.

Verdict: Arguably better than the original for dark chocolate lovers. The balance of bitter, nutty, sweet, and crunchy is exceptional.

Review: Tahini Dream — 8.7/10

Tahini cream replaces pistachio cream in this Middle Eastern-inspired variation.

Taste: The tahini adds an earthy, sesame depth that is distinctly different from the pistachio versions. There's a slight bitterness from the sesame that works beautifully with dark chocolate. The kunafa provides the same satisfying crunch.

Verdict: A bold choice that pays off. Not as immediately crowd-pleasing as pistachio, but more interesting for adventurous palates. We'd love to see a tahini + pistachio hybrid.

Review: Rose Garden — 7.8/10

White chocolate, rose water pistachio cream, and kunafa.

Taste: Delicate and floral, with the rose water perfume hitting first, followed by sweet white chocolate and gentle pistachio. The kunafa crunch provides necessary contrast to what would otherwise be too soft and sweet.

Critique: White chocolate is divisive, and the rose water can be overwhelming if you're not accustomed to it. The pistachio flavor gets lost behind the floral notes. This bar will appeal strongly to a specific audience but won't have universal appeal.

Overall Impressions

What Fix Dessert Does Right:

  • Ingredient quality is clearly premium — real pistachios, properly tempered chocolate, perfectly toasted kunafa
  • Texture innovation — the three-layer construction is genuinely unique
  • Consistency — all five bars were well-made with no manufacturing flaws
  • Packaging — elegant, gift-worthy presentation

Where They Could Improve:

  • Price — $22-$28 per bar is steep, even for premium chocolate
  • Availability — weeks-long waitlists are frustrating
  • Shipping — $22 international shipping adds significant cost for US buyers
  • Shelf life — we noticed the kunafa in one bar had slightly softened (likely due to shipping time)

Is It Worth the Price?

Short answer: Yes, but with caveats.

Fix Dessert Chocolatier bars are genuinely exceptional. The quality, creativity, and execution justify a premium price. If you compare them to other luxury chocolate bars ($8-$15 from brands like Compartes or Vosges), the $22-$28 range is on the high end but not outrageous given the complex construction.

However:

  • If you're curious about Dubai chocolate but budget-conscious, try making your own first. The homemade version, while not identical, captures 80% of the experience at a fraction of the cost.
  • If you want to gift Dubai chocolate, Fix Dessert bars are the prestige option — see our gift guide.
  • If you can find Fix Dessert through a US retailer, you'll save on shipping.

Final Verdict

Fix Dessert Chocolatier earned its viral fame. These aren't gimmick bars riding a TikTok trend — they're thoughtfully crafted confections that represent a genuine innovation in chocolate making. The Can't Get Knafeh bar, in both milk and dark chocolate versions, is a must-try for any chocolate enthusiast.

Is it worth $150 for five bars shipped to the US? For a special occasion or to satisfy deep curiosity — absolutely. For everyday snacking — probably make your own.

Our recommendation: Order the original Can't Get Knafeh and the Dark version. Then learn to temper chocolate and make your own for regular enjoyment.
